Introduction

ICP DAS USA’s transportation solutions support real-time monitoring and control of vehicles, railway systems, road infrastructure, and other distributed transportation assets. Field data such as location, speed, movement, temperature, voltage, current, power consumption, and equipment status is collected from sensors and controllers and transmitted over Ethernet, cellular, and wireless networks. Operators can view this information through touch screen controllers, maps, dashboards, alarms, and SCADA software to improve safety, reliability, maintenance response, and operational efficiency.

Truck and mobile asset tracking systems use the GTP-541M GPS and cellular communication device to collect real-time vehicle location, speed, and movement data. This information is transmitted through cellular networks to AVEVA Edge SCADA software running on an IWS-2201-CE7-1500 touch screen controller. Vehicle locations can be displayed on interactive maps, allowing fleet operators to monitor routes, operating status, and delivery activity from a centralized interface. The SCADA application can be created and deployed using IND-15520-DEV development software.

Railway location-tracking systems use rugged industrial communication and sensing equipment designed for outdoor and high-vibration environments. NSM-208-M12 unmanaged Ethernet switches with secure M12 connectors provide reliable Modbus TCP and Ethernet communication along railway infrastructure. PIR-230-E passive infrared sensing modules detect train movement and presence, while an IWS-2201-CE7-1500 touch screen controller displays train location and system status for operators.

Transportation infrastructure can be monitored using the WP-8421-CE7 Programmable Automation Controller running a custom C# application. The controller collects and processes data from connected field equipment to monitor operating conditions and detect faults. PM-3133-RCT1000P power monitoring modules measure electrical load and energy usage, while ET-7219Z/S modules collect temperature, voltage, and current measurements. This data helps operators identify abnormal conditions before they result in equipment failure or service interruptions.

Wireless toll-road systems use ZT-2052 ZigBee wireless Modbus digital input modules to connect motion sensors and cameras located throughout toll lanes. When a vehicle is detected, the system captures an image that can be processed by vision-analysis software to identify license plate information. Vehicle images, identification details, dates, and timestamps can then be stored in a database for automated toll processing, reporting, and auditing.

Communication between the wireless toll-lane devices and the centralized monitoring system is provided by the ZT-2570 ZigBee host. The host transfers data from the ZT-2052 modules to a computer running Indusoft SCADA software over Ethernet. The NS-205A industrial Ethernet switch provides reliable networking between the SCADA computer, ZigBee host, and other toll-system equipment in extended-temperature environments.

Tracking sensor systems monitor movement and presence along railways, roadways, stations, and other transportation routes. PIR-230-E passive infrared sensors detect moving objects and transmit status information through NSM-208-M12 industrial Ethernet switches. The rugged M12 connections help maintain dependable communication in outdoor locations exposed to vibration, dust, and changing environmental conditions.

Environmental and electrical measurements are collected throughout transportation systems to monitor equipment health and operating conditions. PM-3133-RCT1000P modules measure power consumption and electrical load, while ET-7219Z/S modules collect temperature, voltage, and current data. Operators can use these measurements to detect overheating, abnormal electrical conditions, excessive power usage, and other warning signs that may require maintenance.
