This secure cloud-based monitoring solution enables seamless server room and data center infrastructure management through real-time data collection, remote access, and intelligent analytics.

Success Story:

Taiwania 2, located at Taiwan’s National Center for High-Performance Computing, is the country’s first AI supercomputer and a major milestone in advanced computing technology. In 2018, it ranked 20th on the TOP500 list of the world’s fastest supercomputers and 10th on the Green500 list for energy efficiency.

Taiwania SupercomputerFor high-performance computing (HPC) and data centers, two key measures of performance are computing power and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). Taiwania 2 delivers an impressive 9 PFLOPS of computing power, capable of performing 9 quadrillion calculations per second. At the same time, its innovative warm-water cooling system helps achieve a PUE of 1.2, meeting the prestigious Platinum-level energy efficiency benchmark. This combination of powerful performance and efficient cooling makes Taiwania 2 a leading example of sustainable AI and data center infrastructure.

ICP DAS USA’s system collects real-time data from server cabinets, including temperature, humidity, and power usage, and presents it through intuitive dashboards for easy data visualization and centralized monitoring in the control center.

In addition to environmental and energy monitoring, the system also tracks server cabinet door status to help prevent unauthorized access and enhance data security. By providing instant visibility into critical operating conditions, the platform supports preventive maintenance, improves energy efficiency, and strengthens overall server room safety and security.

This case study demonstrates how ICP DAS USA’s helps organizations achieve smarter server room monitoring, enabling real-time oversight of server cabinet conditions while enhancing operational reliability, security, and sustainability.

How the Solution Works:

  • The DL-10 Remote Temperature/Humidity/Dew Point Sensing Module monitors temperature and humidity at designated locations within the server room. Collected data is transmitted to the MDC-714 Modbus Data Concentrator via Modbus RTU for centralized environmental monitoring. Thanks to its compact, space-saving design, the DL-10 is ideal for installation inside server cabinets, where space is limited, enabling accurate monitoring of cabinet environmental conditions.
  • The M-7051D-G Digital Input (DI) Module supports both Modbus RTU and DCON protocols and provides 16 digital input channels for monitoring dry and wet contacts. It also features 16 LED indicators for quick channel status verification and supports wiring distances of up to 500 meters for dry-contact applications. In this server room deployment, the M-7051D-G is used to monitor server cabinet door status, helping improve access control and security.
  • PM-3133-100-MTCP 3-phase Smart Power Meter features high measurement accuracy, and it is suited for the current measurement on the primary side carrying low voltage and the secondary side carrying medium and high voltage. These capabilities enable the acquisition of reliable and accurate data on energy consumption, as well as real-time monitoring and equipment operation. PM-3133-100-MTCP provides clip-on CT with a maximum current input of 400 A and a wide range of voltage input from 10 to 500 VAC, ensuring its voltage compatibility in countries with varying standards. In this case study, PM-3133-100-MTCP directly transmits data on the cooling system ‘s energy consumption to the control center computer through Modbus TCP.
  • MDC-714 Modbus Data Concentrator offers numerous communication interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232, and RS-485. The internal shared memory has four tables to store AI, AO, DI, and DO registers, respectively, and each table can store up to 9600 registers. The MDC-714 accepts Modbus TCP masters to directly read/write data from/to the shared memory, making the data transmitted in Modbus RTU sharable to multiple Modbus TCP masters.
  • AVEVA Edge is a powerful HMI/SCADA software platform that enables the development of user-friendly monitoring and control applications across all Windows runtime platforms. In this deployment, its HMI capabilities provide operators with a centralized interface for data acquisition, industrial communication, and system monitoring. The platform consolidates data from equipment, networks, and services for real-time monitoring, data visualization, analysis, and storage through intuitive dashboards and charts. In addition, integration with the GTM-204M-4GE Industrial 4G Modem enables instant alarm notifications to be sent to administrators’ mobile devices whenever equipment abnormalities are detected, allowing for faster response and improved system reliability.
  • The GTM-204M-4GE Industrial 4G Modem provides reliable 2G/3G/4G wireless connectivity for data transmission in PLC and PC applications. To enhance security in this server room environment, internet-based notifications such as email or LINE messages are not used when environmental anomalies are detected. Instead, the GTM-204M-4GE sends alarm notifications directly to administrators via the cellular network, ensuring timely alerts while reducing cybersecurity risks and improving data security.

Conclusion:

ICP DAS USA’s environmental monitoring and energy management systems provide real-time visibility into critical server room conditions, including temperature and humidity, liquid leak events, CRAC (HVAC) performance, server cabinet door status, and power consumption. Through centralized dashboards and data visualization tools, operators can easily monitor and manage these key parameters to improve reliability, security, and energy efficiency.

Proven across a wide range of industries worldwide, ICP DAS USA’s solutions help organizations optimize facility operations and protect critical infrastructure. Notable deployments include a customized server room environmental and power monitoring system for a leading airline in Taiwan and an environmental monitoring and access control system implemented at the Turkcell Data Center in Turkey.
