This webinar is an engineer’s guide to using relay outputs in industrial automation and explains how to select the right output type for real-world control tasks. It starts by reviewing relay fundamentals—normally open vs. normally closed contacts, Form A/Form B/Form C wiring, common terminals, and how relays provide electrical isolation for safely switching external loads like lights, fans, solenoids, compressors, and motor starters. The training then compares electromechanical relay outputs to solid-state outputs, covering key tradeoffs such as switching speed, lifespan, load capacity, and isolation requirements, and walks through common application scenarios including building automation, safety shutdowns, and alarm indication. The webinar also highlights Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP relay output options, wireless relay output use cases, and “no-code” approaches like I/O pairing and rule-based controllers for triggering relays based on input conditions. Finally, a live demo shows how to configure a Modbus RTU relay output module, map its registers into SCADA software (Aveva Edge/InduSoft), and build a simple HMI screen with buttons and pilot lights to control and visualize relay states in real time.
