ICP DAS helped implement a steel acid water treatment system in an emerging industrial market in Fujian, China. The first phase of the project launched in early 2013.

The production quality yield of the factory is greatly impacted by the acid water treatment system, so it requires redundant functions for reliability, constant system uptime, and robustness. The system also requires online maintenance capabilities and an uninterruptible power supply for system stability and fast, easy maintenance. The system scope and number of points to be monitored are extremely large. There are many different kinds of I/O needed in many different areas of the application.

The iDCS-8830 is an intelligent, remote, redundant Ethernet I/O expansion unit for DCS systems. It includes power and communication modules. A large I/O selection is available for system monitoring.
The I/O is hot-swappable, so you can replace the modules without needing to shut down the system. The I/O supports auto-configuration, so when you replace a module, the MCU automatically configures the replacement with the last module’s known settings. It supports fast (<1 ms) I/O redundancy switching.
ICP DAS’s iDCS-8830 met the scope of the large scale and I/O redundancy requirements, as well as the ease-of-maintenance needs.
