5 Touch Screen Applications

Touch Screen Controller Applications

Touch Screen Controllers allow you to monitor system status, control applications, send and receive alarm information, and much more. Touch screens provide a convenient and easy-to-use interface and are ideal for a wide range of applications. They can work with programmable controllers or PC-based systems over Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP. Below are several examples of applications that utilize touch screens.

1) Building Automation Systems

Touch Screen PLCs can be installed in electrical outlets inside buildings. They can be programmed to control lighting, audio systems, gates, heating, air conditioning, and even robotic vacuums. Touch screens can display room temperature and function as multi-way light switches. A main computer can run a central control program that overrides the room’s touch screen PLC when devices need to be turned off or adjusted remotely.

2) Restaurant Ordering Systems

Touch screens can be installed at each table in a restaurant. Each screen can serve as a point-of-sale terminal, allowing customers to place food and beverage orders. These orders are sent directly to the kitchen for preparation. Touch screens like TPD-280-H and TPD-283-H communicate over Modbus RTU or Modbus TCP and easily exchange information with a central restaurant system.

3) Car Wash Systems

Touch Screen PLCs can serve as the user interface for drive-through car washes. Users select their preferred wash cycle and pay using a credit card reader. A TPD-280U-H with a real-time clock can work with motors, brushes, and data acquisition modules to execute wash cycles and manage the entire process automatically.

4) Irrigation and Sprinkler Control

Irrigation systems often include multiple zones that must be watered at different intervals. A touch screen controller with a real-time clock can be programmed to run each irrigation cycle at the desired time of day. Operators can navigate between screens to monitor each area, manually control sprinklers, or update watering schedules as needed.

5) Cold Storage Monitoring

A touch screen PLC such as the TPD-280-H can be installed at the door of a refrigerator or freezer. It can display real-time temperature and show a blue indicator strip when temperatures are within the desired range. If temperatures rise to unsafe levels, the strip turns red and an alarm can be triggered through a module like M-7060, activating audio and visual alerts so maintenance personnel can respond immediately.
