Troubleshooting Common Modbus Issues
This training webinar focuses on troubleshooting common Modbus RTU communication issues in RS-485 networks and provides practical tools and best practices engineers can apply in the field. It starts with a quick refresher on Modbus master/slave architecture and typical register-table behavior, then dives into real-world causes of communication failures—incorrect slave addressing, mismatched baud rate/parity, wiring polarity errors (A/B vs. Data+/Data-), weak signal strength over long cable runs, insufficient DC biasing, missing termination, grounding problems, and electrical noise. The video explains when to use RS-485 repeaters to restore signal strength, wiring hubs to branch networks cleanly, and baud-rate converters/port sharing modules when devices require different serial settings. It also demonstrates how to use a PC with a USB-to-RS-485 converter and ICP DAS USA Modbus utilities to test devices, verify register mapping and scaling, measure response timing, and isolate problems by testing one slave at a time—helping viewers diagnose issues faster and build more reliable Modbus RTU installations.
