Managing The Trickiest Parts of Programming Ladder Logic with Modbus
This training webinar teaches the fundamentals of ladder logic programming and demonstrates how to use HMIWorks to build a Modbus-enabled Touch Screen PLC project. The session starts with a clear overview of Modbus RTU vs. Modbus TCP and how data is stored and exchanged through register tables, then explains ladder logic concepts such as contacts/coils, AND/OR logic, boolean vs. analog variables, and using function blocks for timers, math, scaling, and unit conversions. In the live demo, the presenter creates an HMIWorks project for a TPD-433-H Touch Screen PLC, configures a Modbus TCP connection to an ET-7026 remote I/O module, auto-creates tags for holding registers, and builds a simple screen that displays and updates analog output values in real time. The video also highlights practical development tips like using built-in widgets (labels, buttons, sliders), organizing devices and tags, downloading the project to the controller, and verifying results through the module’s Web HMI—providing a solid workflow for building small Modbus monitoring and control applications quickly.
