Ethernet Data Acquisition Essentials
This webinar is an introduction to Ethernet-based data acquisition (DAQ) and explains why Ethernet is becoming the preferred communication method for modern industrial monitoring and control systems. The presenter compares Ethernet to traditional serial wiring (RS-232/RS-485), highlighting advantages like higher bandwidth, easier scaling, multi-device access across the network, and simpler integration with existing IT infrastructure. The training then reviews common industrial Ethernet protocols—EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, PROFINET, and EtherCAT—and shows examples of ICP DAS USA remote I/O families built for each protocol, including web-configurable Modbus TCP I/O modules and dual-port models that support daisy-chain topologies. The webinar also covers practical system-building components such as industrial Ethernet switches, plus gateways and protocol converters for connecting legacy serial devices to Ethernet networks, helping engineers design flexible DAQ architectures for factory automation, building systems, and infrastructure monitoring.
