Tunnel Statement

Project Overview

The Badaling tunnels, located along the Badaling Highway at the 55-kilometer mark, consist of Tanyugou, Badaling Pass, and other tunnel components. Completed in 1998, the tunnels have been in operation for many years. Over time, the original system’s functions could no longer be repaired or meet operational requirements; therefore, a transformation was required. This transformation mainly focuses on the supervisory system’s redevelopment, which includes the RTU (Region Controller) design and monitoring center software design and development. The superior monitoring software primarily uses Kingview 6.51, while the regional controller mainly uses the Oumulong CSI series PLC, both of which have achieved great results.

This project is part of the Beijing Badaling Expressway’s Juyongguan Tunnel Monitoring Department. The system mainly uses the Oumulong CS series PLC, which uses Ethernet to connect and control traffic lights, fans, road lamps, and information display boards. The superior monitoring system uses Kingview 6.51, as well as Kingview 6.51 NETView Edition, to monitor tunnel equipment including lighting, ventilation, fire systems, transportation, power distribution systems, and other running equipment to ensure smooth and safe operation.

Hardware

The system mainly uses the Oumulong CS series PLC.

The PLC monitors traffic lights, fans, and traffic information boards.

Kingview Software

The superior monitoring system uses Kingview SCADA — three sets of Kingview 6.51 and two sets of Kingview 6.51 NETView.

Tunnel monitoring uses Kingview NETView software for client development. All client data messages originate from the corresponding server software. First, all control commands are passed to the corresponding server, which then sends them to the PLC, map screen, and other equipment. At the same time, the server saves important data to the database.

System Structure

The system uses the Controller Link industrial fieldbus and industrial Ethernet network, consisting of four control layers: the on-site equipment layer, the on-site control layer, the control center layer, and the higher-level management layer.

On-site equipment layer: Mainly includes traffic lights, fans, lamps, CO and visibility sensors, etc.

On-site control layer: Consists of OMRON CSI series PLCs (regional controllers). Regional controllers communicate through the Controller Link Industrial Fieldbus, forming a redundant fiber-optic ring network.

Control center layer: Comprises dual servers (two sets of Kingview 6.51), a communication computer (one set of Kingview 6.51), and two monitoring computers (two sets of Kingview 6.51 NETView).

Higher-level management layer: Consists of a central monitoring data server and computer terminals, with data accessible via the web. Kingview 6.51 WEB series have been successfully utilized in the Beijing Qinghe Remote Monitoring Central Station.

Tunnel Control System Software Structure

The system software uses a C/S structure, and the tunnel monitoring system software is divided according to function into:

– Correspondence server software

– Information processing software

– Tunnel monitoring software

– Emergency phone software

– CCTV control software

– External power system monitoring software

– Fire alarm software

In this design, the database uses SQL Server 2000, including tunnel monitoring software, correspondence server software, information processing software, and electric power monitoring software — all developed using Kingview software.

The software system diagram is as follows:

The tunnel structure includes a special-skill tunnel and two long tunnels, controlling more than 2,600 total points, which generate large volumes of frequent data interactions. After analyzing this system, a C/S network configuration was adopted, allowing all data acquisition and control (including graphic screen display and control) to be concentrated on a communications workstation. The workstation server management software uses the Kingview unlimited version.

This server is configured in the network as an I/O server, registration server, alarm server, and historical record server.

Configuration and System Features

Upon completion of development, the system achieved the following features:

1. Real-time monitoring of tunnel conditions through detectors, visibility monitors, light detectors, wind speed and direction detectors, and other field devices.

2. Parameter configuration for transportation, lighting control, ventilation system variables, and event warnings.

3. Traffic light, display board, and information sign control with fault feedback.

4. Complete manual illumination, pattern manual, automatic timing, and automatic light control.

5. Fan manual, pattern manual, and automatic event control.

6. Fire alarm linkage and CO/VI exceedance plan control.

7. Graphical screen display control.

8. Data inspection, environmental data recording, information statistics, and report preview.

9. Electrical equipment operation parameter display and control.

10. Fast response system: external equipment responds to control commands within 200 ms, with overall response times under 1 second.

In addition, the software configuration supports realistic, animated graphics to visually reflect equipment states, making it easier to manage compared to high-level language-based development.
