ICP DAS USA Cleanroom Leak Detection & Access Control Solution

Introduction
The customer is a bottling company and subsidiary of a leading U.S. beverage manufacturer that distributes billions of boxes of carbonated and non-carbonated beverages worldwide each year. To maintain product quality, consistency, and safety, the company stores beverages in cold storage warehouses, protecting them from heat, light, and other environmental factors.
The facility includes three separate cold storage warehouses located more than 30 meters from the control center. The customer needed to monitor and record temperature data from all three warehouses simultaneously, with updates delivered every minute for real-time visibility and analysis.
To meet these requirements, the company implemented an IIoT-based monitoring solution using ICP DAS USA’s WISE Series IIoT Edge Controller and I-7017C Analog Input Module. This solution enables centralized temperature monitoring, data collection, storage, and analysis across all warehouse locations.
ICP DAS USA Solution for Cold Storage Temperature Monitoring
In this application, the ICP DAS USA I-7017C Analog Input Module receives signals from temperature sensors installed throughout the cold storage warehouses. These signals are transmitted to the WISE-5231 IIoT Edge Controller, which converts the sensor inputs into temperature data.
The WISE-5231 then sends the data to the central control center, where operators can view and analyze temperature conditions in real time. This architecture provides reliable monitoring of multiple warehouses from a single location, helping ensure product quality while improving operational efficiency.

Temperature Sensors → I-7017C Analog Input Module → WISE-5231 IIoT Edge Controller → Central Control Center

Solution Overview
The ICP DAS USA I-7017C 8-channel analog input module is designed to capture current signals directly using built-in resistors. In this application, each of the three cold storage warehouses uses an I-7017C to collect signals from multiple temperature sensors. A single module can monitor up to eight sensing points and transmit data to the WISE-5231 IIoT Edge Controller via the DCON protocol.
The ICP DAS USA WISE-5231 IIoT Edge Controller provides powerful edge computing, remote monitoring, and control capabilities for industrial applications. Its built-in IF-THEN-ELSE logic engine supports reliable automation, while additional features such as mathematical functions, scheduling, and email notifications simplify system management.
Using the controller’s Linear Scaling function, sensor current signals are automatically converted into meaningful temperature values. Temperature data is then transmitted to the control center via Modbus TCP for real-time monitoring. The integrated Data Logger records and stores temperature data for reporting, quality control, and audit purposes. In the event of a communication interruption, the WISE-5231 can recover and fill in missing records to help ensure data continuity.
Key Benefits
The WISE Series IIoT Edge Controllers feature built-in Linear Scaling and Data Logger functions, making it easy to collect, store, visualize, and analyze temperature data. The platform also supports real-time notifications through email, SMS, and other messaging services, allowing personnel to respond quickly to abnormal temperature conditions.
By combining the I-7017C and WISE-5231, operators can monitor all three cold storage warehouses from a single control center. This eliminates the need for manual temperature checks, reduces labor requirements, and minimizes data entry errors.
ICP DAS USA remote I/O modules support a wide range of communication protocols and I/O signal types, including current, voltage, strain, temperature, and digital signals. Built-in dual watchdog protection, electrical isolation, and overvoltage safeguards enhance system reliability and help maintain safe operation under abnormal conditions.
In addition to Modbus TCP, ICP DAS USA WISE Controllers support MQTT communication, enabling secure transmission of monitoring data to cloud platforms and remote management systems.
