In this system, chickens are automatically weighed as they move naturally through the coop. Scales are placed along walking paths, allowing chickens to step on them randomly without disrupting normal behavior. Each chicken is equipped with an RFID tag, enabling the system to associate weight data with individual animals.
Weight and RFID data are transmitted wirelessly using Zigbee technology to a central control computer located outside the coop. Zigbee converters collect the data, while programmable device servers aggregate information from multiple converters for centralized processing.
Operators can view up-to-date chicken profiles on connected computers, providing real-time insight into growth and health trends. The Zigbee network supports communication distances of up to 200 meters, allows data to pass around obstacles, and can scale to as many as 65,535 nodes—making it ideal for large agricultural environments.
