Cloud-Based Solar Power Monitoring Solution in Phuket, Thailand

Smart Water Monitoring for Reliable Water Purification Operations

Introduction

Thailand’s network of solar power plants spans Phuket and 32 nearby islands, creating challenges for remote monitoring and maintenance. ICP DAS USA’s cloud data visualization solution uses IIoT technology and 4G communications to deliver real-time data from each site to a central control center. The platform provides remote visibility, performance analytics, and preventive maintenance insights that help reduce downtime and lower operating costs.

ICP DAS USA WISE IIoT Edge Controllers and IoTstar for Remote Solar Plant Monitoring

ICP DAS USA’s WISE IIoT Edge Controllers are widely used for remote monitoring, control, and automation in industrial applications. With built-in IF-THEN-ELSE logic, they can execute control strategies reliably without requiring continuous communication with a central system. Additional features such as mathematical functions, scheduling, and email notifications help streamline operations and improve system responsiveness.

The controllers can also automatically trigger actions and alarms during communication interruptions, helping protect critical data and maintain operational continuity. In this project, the customer uses the WISE-5231M-4GE to collect and transmit solar power plant data from remote islands to a central control center in Phuket via a 4G wireless network.

IoTstar, developed by ICP DAS USA, is a cloud-based management platform that enables remote monitoring and control of WISE, PMC, and PMD series controllers, as well as connected I/O modules, devices, and equipment. The platform provides centralized data collection, visualization, and device management through an intuitive dashboard interface.

IoTstar can be deployed on private Windows-based servers or hosted on major cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and other cloud infrastructures. In this application, IoTstar receives data from the WISE-5231M-4GE, stores it in a database, and presents real-time information through customizable dashboards. This allows operators to monitor plant performance, analyze operational trends, and manage equipment across multiple remote islands from a single location.

Key Benefits

  • Lower installation costs with 4G wireless communications and reduced wiring requirements.
  • No-code automation through an easy-to-use web-based control interface.
  • Reliable data recovery with onboard data logging during network outages.
  • Remote monitoring and management from anywhere using IoTstar.
  • Real-time dashboards and reporting that support preventive maintenance and reduce downtime.
  • PDF and Excel reporting for convenient performance analysis and record keeping.

Together, the ICP DAS USA WISE-5231M-4GE and IoTstar deliver a scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solution for managing solar power plants across geographically dispersed locations.

Conclusion

Using ICP DAS USA’s cloud data visualization solution, the customer successfully implemented a remote monitoring and predictive maintenance system for solar power plants across Phuket and 32 surrounding islands.

Powered by the WISE Series IIoT Edge Controllers and IoTstar, the solution delivers real-time visibility, centralized management, and proactive maintenance capabilities that improve reliability while reducing operational costs.

With successful deployments across renewable energy, water infrastructure, and other industrial applications, ICP DAS USA provides scalable IIoT solutions that help organizations connect, monitor, and optimize critical assets from anywhere.
