Introduction
As global travel continues to recover, visitor numbers are rising at tourist destinations around the world, including Sun-Link-Sea Vacation Resort in Nantou County, Taiwan.
To create a more engaging visitor experience, the resort wanted to display real-time environmental information that highlights the area’s natural beauty. The data includes negative air ion levels, temperature, humidity, and PM2.5 concentrations, giving visitors valuable insight into the surrounding forest environment.
ICP DAS USA delivered a customized data visualization and environmental monitoring solution that makes this information easily accessible in real time. This case study demonstrates how the solution helps Sun-Link-Sea Vacation Resort share environmental data with visitors, creating a more informative and enjoyable experience.

Live Air Quality Information for Outdoor Recreation Areas
In this application, the customer uses the DL-100TM485S Temperature & Humidity Data Logger and the DL-1020 Data Logger to monitor temperature, humidity, and PM2.5 levels. Data from these devices is collected and transmitted through the tGW-715 Tiny Gateway.
To monitor negative air ion levels, sensors are installed near the waterfall and connected to the M-7017Z-G Analog Input Module, which converts sensor readings into usable digital data. This information is also transmitted through a tGW-715 Tiny Gateway.
The collected data is sent to the WISE-5231M Intelligent IIoT Edge Controller and displayed in real time on iKAN Series Industrial LED Displays. Visitors can easily view air quality, negative air ion levels, temperature, and humidity across different areas of the park, helping them better enjoy and appreciate the natural environment.

Environmental Monitoring Devices
The DL-100 Series Temperature & Humidity Data Loggers are designed to monitor temperature and humidity in outdoor environments. With an IP66-rated enclosure and built-in LCD display, they provide reliable performance in harsh conditions while allowing on-site staff to easily view data. In this application, the DL-100TM485S collects temperature and humidity data and sends it to the tGW-715 Tiny Gateway.
The DL-1000 Series Air Quality Data Loggers monitor a wide range of environmental conditions, including airborne particles, gases, temperature, and humidity. They feature built-in data storage, alarm notifications, and support multiple communication options. In this project, the DL-1020 Data Logger is used to measure PM2.5 levels and transmit the collected data to the tGW-715 Tiny Gateway.
The M-7017Z-G Analog Input Module is used to collect data from negative air ion sensors installed throughout the recreation area. The module converts sensor signals into digital data and includes advanced protection features to ensure reliable operation in demanding environments.
In this application, the M-7017Z-G receives measurements from the negative air ion sensors and sends the converted data to the tGW-715 Tiny Gateway. Together, these devices provide accurate, real-time environmental data that can be displayed to visitors and used for ongoing monitoring.
Data Communication and Real-Time Display
The tGW-700 Series Tiny Gateways simplify communication between field devices and Ethernet networks, allowing environmental data to be transmitted reliably over longer distances. In this application, the tGW-715 Tiny Gateway collects data on negative air ions, temperature, humidity, and PM2.5 levels and sends it over the Ethernet network. The data is then delivered through the NS-208A Ethernet Switch to the WISE-5231M Intelligent IIoT Edge Controller for processing and display.
The iKAN Series Intelligent LED Displays are designed to present real-time information in a clear and highly visible format. The displays support multiple languages, customizable messages, color-coded text, and seamless integration with automation and monitoring systems, making them ideal for public information displays.
In this project, iKAN-124A-IP65, iKAN-248A-IP65, and iKAN-424A-IP65 LED displays work together with the WISE-5231M Edge Controller to show real-time environmental data throughout the recreation area. Visitors can easily view current air quality, negative air ion levels, temperature, and humidity, helping them better enjoy the natural surroundings.
To further enhance visitor engagement, the iKAN Series also supports mobile interaction. By scanning an on-site QR code, visitors can submit personalized messages that can be displayed on the LED screens, creating a more interactive and memorable experience.


Edge Control and Data Visualization
The ICP DAS USA WISE Intelligent IIoT Edge Controller Series is designed for automation, monitoring, and data management applications. With built-in IF-THEN-ELSE logic, the controller can automatically process data, trigger actions, schedule tasks, and send notifications when needed.
In this application, the WISE-5231M Edge Controller collects environmental data and uses logic rules to display real-time information on the iKAN Series LED displays. This allows visitors to easily view current air quality, negative air ion levels, temperature, and humidity throughout the resort.
The controller also connects its built-in data logger to an FTP server, enabling environmental data to be automatically uploaded and displayed on the Sun-Link-Sea Vacation Resort website. As a result, both on-site visitors and online guests can access real-time environmental information anytime.
