Data Acquisition and Automation Technology
This training webinar provides an engineer-focused overview of data acquisition and automation system design, then demonstrates how to build a complete PC-based monitoring and control system using EZ Data Logger and a Modbus TCP Ethernet I/O module. The presentation explains how real-world signals (temperature, tank level, pressure, motor speed, and on/off status) are converted into digital values, stored in register tables, and shared over common industrial protocols such as Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP. It compares wired and wireless architecture options (Ethernet, RS-485, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and cellular) and highlights supporting infrastructure like Ethernet switches, repeaters, and PoE remote I/O to simplify deployment. In the live demo, the presenter configures an Ethernet I/O module via its web interface, connects it to EZ Data Logger, creates tags, scales analog values into engineering units, trends and logs data, and builds a simple alarm/control rule that triggers an output based on an input threshold—showing a practical workflow engineers can replicate for real industrial monitoring applications.
