Torment 12 is easier to reach when you treat the climb as a series of small checks rather than one huge wall. At level 70, clear The Pit to unlock the early tiers, starting with Torment 1 at Pit 10. Further tiers open at regular Pit milestones, so every successful run matters. You do not need perfect gear on day one, either. A sensible build, steady upgrades, and a few well-chosen D4 items can give you enough momentum to keep moving.
Build Your Paragon Foundation First
Early Paragon points are often wasted by rushing straight to Glyph sockets. Glyphs need time and experience before they really shine. Instead, aim for Legendary Nodes and the useful Rare and Magic Nodes on the route. Life, armour, resistances, and other defensive stats can save a run when damage starts to spike. Try to reach three Legendary Nodes while working through Torments 1 to 5. Start your War Plans before farming so your Paragon experience is doing more work. This approach feels less flashy, but you will notice that your character survives mistakes instead of folding after one hit.
Use Gear Crafting to Break Through Stalls
Once your basic board is in place, look closely at gloves, rings, and amulets. An Ancestral base is ideal, although an 850 Item Power piece can fill the gap. Put a clean item in the Horadric Cube, add an Aggressive Tuning Prism, and roll the available affixes. You might not get the combination you want on the first attempt. That is normal. Remove the unwanted affix or try another item, and take the prism out before transmuting. If supplies are running low, a regular, Lesser, or Greater Tribute of Ingenuity with the right Bargain can help replenish them.
Shift Your Priorities in Torments 6 to 9
After Torment 5, Glyphs become a much bigger part of your damage and utility. Level the Glyphs you actually use to 25, then unlock their sockets as your board path allows. Torment 6 also introduces Greater Lair Keys, while Unique Charms become available at Torment 8. Keep running Undercity activities when they appear in your War Plans, especially if you need more crafting materials. At this stage, balance matters. One strong offensive stat will not fix a build with weak resistances, low life, or missing damage multipliers.
Polish Your Character in Torments 10 to 12
Torment 10 is where progression slows and optimisation takes over. Mythic Horadric Seals unlock here, and Lair Bosses become much more attractive for target farming the Uniques your build depends on. Keep improving Glyphs, Paragon routes, masterworked gear, and Charm rolls. The Season Journey is still worth checking because its rewards can cover gaps in materials and gear. If you plan to buy cheap D4 items, focus on pieces that solve a real weakness, then use your own farming and crafting to finish the build rather than replacing the whole progression path.

- Keep useful Ancestral jewellery and gloves instead of salvaging everything.
- Spread relevant damage multipliers across your gear rather than stacking one effect.
- Pick up every Set Charm from Torment 3 onward for Cube rerolls.
- Use defensive Paragon nodes if your damage is fine but your deaths are frequent.
